One of the beauties of “feminist analysis” is that it can be used to turn anything and I mean literally anything into a anti female display. All it takes is the shallowest possible reading of a scene mixed with the maximum possible paranoia. Think of it as a paranoiacs hide a word.
Take the picture on the right. What we see is a man and a woman doing something that many of us who have relationships have done or seen a thousand times. He is taking her picture, she is pretending to be coy and shy and they are both having a good time.
Now, let us look through our “feminist” eyes.
- She is pretty, thus this image is an attack on everyone who is not pretty
- She is laying on the floor, thus she is downtrodden and vulnerable
- She is wearing white, thus she is a virgin to be defiled
- Despite her smile and her body language, her hands say “no, no!” and thus this is nonconsensual
- There is a camera involved, so this is clearly pornography
- The man is standing, thus he is clearly going to murder her with an axe
- There is a fireplace, where he clearly intends to burn her dismembered corpse
- The setting looks expensive, so clearly they are living on the backs of the downtrodden ‘workers’
- The marble of the fireplace represents the rape of some natural resource, those bastards
- She’s blonde and as we all know no real women are blonde thus this woman is a conspirator with the patriarchy to destroy the self image of her sisters
See how easy it is? Hell you could come up with another 5 or 10 yourself. If you do, please post them on a blog somewhere and put your link int he comments below. Lets see how many signs of oppression we can fabricate. If you can find more than 15 your probably a ‘feminist scholar’. Bonus points if you can somehow relate it to socialism, the rain forest and the spotted owl.
Let’s face it, you have to have internalized paranoia and victim hood pretty deeply to look at that picture and think “oh my god! look at the violence!”. If you have, then it says a lot more about you than it does society.
