Those of you who remember the words of Amanda Marcotte from back before she became the semi-housebroken pet blogger for John Edwards will also remember her chocked-out-between-gritted-teeth apology. Her years long history of racism and bigotry were just satire!
“My writings on my personal blog Pandagon on the issue of religion are generally satirical in nature and always intended strictly as a criticism of public policies and politics. My intention is never to offend anyone for his or her personal beliefs, and I am sorry if anyone was personally offended by writings meant only as criticisms of public politics. Freedom of religion and freedom of expression are central rights, and the sum of my personal writings is a testament to this fact.” – Amanda Marcotte disavowing everything she ever wrote on Pandagon
Ah yes. Radical Feminism. Bastion of free speech and sophisticated enough to understand satire. Oh wait. Not.
When confronted with actual satire like an essay espousing rape in a tongue in cheek way those lovers of freedom and purveyors of satire went apeshit.
“On Thursday afternoon, dozens of students turned out for a protest outside the university’s student center calling for the resignations of Petroski and Mark Rowan, the editor of The Recorder.” – the predicable freak out in context
More reactions from the too damaged to handle a joke can be found at the links below. They include this comment that in light of their complete inability as a group to understand why some folks might be upset by the writings of dear Amanda is so telling about their myopia it is stunning.
“These students are failing the lesson of learning the power of words and the responsibility that goes with that power. ” – Amusing comment in context
I am all for holding people responsible for what they write when forming an opinion of them. You want to protest this essay about rape then go right ahead. But don’t do it while your trying to tell other people to lighten up and ignore the hate filled racist ranting of your own patron saint of crazy.
