Today's overused word: "Myth"

There are lots and lots of words used by activists that don’t mean what they think they mean. While “strawman” is probably #1 with “privilege” as the next one somewhere on that list lives “myth”.

In a recent post on abyss2hope Marcella Chester took up the topic of women who molest boys. Now clearly it is a serious issue whenever anyone is involved in a sexual act against their will and certainly when one of those is a minor things get even more complicated and potentially dangerous. So let’s just make sure we are clear on that. In no way am I saying that all male minors desire sexual activity with their teachers or other women.

So had Marcella left it at something like “It is important that people take cases of female molestation of young boys seriously” then I would have agreed wholeheartedly and moved on. However it didn’t stop there.

See the problem is that we all know something that is also true. That a lot of young males (in particular from say 11 and up) would absolutely welcome the opportunity to have sexual contact with an older female. If she is hot then that ups the odds. We can decide this isn’t PC. We can huff and puff about how dangerous a notion it is. We can go back and forth about consent. None of that will change the simple reality that many, many young males would not be traumatized by this if left to their natural reactions but would in fact be high fiving each other around the schoolyard.

When faced with a disconnect between their ideology and the reality around them the only way many activists can avoid a serious cognitive dissonance problem is to simply postulate that the reactions of normal humans have been warped by a massive globe spanning conspiracy. In this case the “myth” that young males want to have sex is a tactic of what Marcella no doubt thinks is a massive and well organized sexual predator propaganda machine.

“These myths are designed to prevent victims from speaking up and to prevent people from believing once the victim does speak up.” – Marcella’s wisdom (emphasis mine)

Notice the word designed in there? So for all of human history, all the while those of us who were young males or knew young males have all been the victims of a horrible falsehood. See young males don’t want to have sex at all! They don’t find older women attractive either.

No doubt if this post is found by the radical feminist nutroots they will go on and on about my “denial” that young males can be and are molested. Of course I never denied such a thing but that won’t stop them. That’s the problem when people are working so hard to match the reality outside themselves with their ideology… anyone who brings up reality must be the enemy and a heretic.

So let’s recap:

  1. Young males by and large would be perfectly happy with the chance for sexual contact with a female (or male if they are so inclined)
  2. Young males can and are occasionally sexually used against their will
  3. The fact that #2 happens is a bad thing
  4. Being someone who knows that #1 is true does not make you someone who denies that #2 happens or that #3 is true
  5. #1 is not a myth
  6. There is no global conspiracy of sexual predators spreading propaganda

That is all.
