This post over at Ren’s place is a good one. I wound up commenting on it over there but I wanted to cross post my comment here for future reference.
“I agree with a lot of this post… though I am not sure that I buy into the idea that there is much gender issue here. In other words I don’t think that alpha females get a worse rap than alpha males or that alpha males are any more intimidated by alpha females than they are other alpha males.
I spend a fair amount of time in circumstances where humans interact in ways that does not seek to artificially suppress the natural power hierarchies (in other words I have interactions outside the whacko PC “activist” community) and the alphas neatly managed to handle their turf issues whether they are male or female.
Hell, my personal life brings me often into contact with complex hierarchies power wise. My own household is a poly / power based structure and the nature of the educational work I do in the BDSM community means that I often have to temporarily mesh my power structure with that of other groups. It can be complicated if you over think it – but usually your intuition will suit you just fine because when we aren’t trying to mess with it humans are pretty damn good at figuring power hierarchies out. We are born for it.” – my comment to this post
You are most certainly seeing such dynamics in action, but probably in a different context than say, oh, the regular club scene on an average friday night. Heh. I think I am going to write about sexually aggressive females later today.
