If they didn't print it, it must be true…
Fundamentally I think people believe in the more paranoid conspiracy theories because they want to feel special. Their looking for something that will cast them as the heroes in some internal movie where the plucky rebels fight against the overbearing empire.
Those who are flat out crazy hear voices in their heads and believe the TV newscaster is speaking secretly to them. Those who are a little less crazy spend their time picking small anomalies in news coverage out and calling this research and evidence.
One Tenacious Baby Mama is without a doubt a little… off. The web design is straight out of the Timecube school of thought and the ranting is pretty amusing at times. In fact the only thing that keeps it from being flat out hilarious is that there will be a huge therapy bill in the future for her children.
Anyway, she has the lowdown on the world behind the curtain. How does she know? Two line news reports that are never repeated .
“So he’s related to a doctor who uses tuberculosis in his research and he’s got tuberculosis and he’s been spreading an extremely resistant strain of tuberculosis.
That’s one thing.
The other thing is that CBC shared this information in a brief one or two sentence report and then quickly went on.” – Darkdaughta exposing the great Bush administration tuberculosis conspiracy
Why did I put that last bit in italics? So you can understand how important it is. See that’s how you know when they change something in the Matrix the vast conspiracy makes a mistake.
“Now, the last time I witnessed them do this was just around the time the war started. They aired a brief one or two sentence story about an american document that was leaked that allegedly proved that the circumstances surrounding the war had all been planned.
[...]
That news item, which was really news, not the fakey fakey kind that the amerikkkans have forced us into reporting was extremely brief and never reported on again.
That’s how I know it was fer real.” – Darkdaughta exposing the great Bush administration tuberculosis conspiracy
Me? I think she’s onto the vast alien conspiracy.

If only. It’s too bad the news isn’t like in “V for Vendetta ” where you can tell if a story is false just by watching how the newscaster blinks.
