Betsy Salkind: Apparently, the real "Ethel's Law" is "I bet my audience is dumb enough…"

One of the best parts about the web is the full on silliness of some of it’s denizens. Instead of hiding in their houses amidst the newspapers and dumpster salvaged bicycles they can post to the web!

Today’s spotlighted soul is Betsy Salkind who is known in many circles as, I kid you not, “The Squirrel Lady”. Among her other accomplishments dear Betsy can count being a staff writer for the show “Rosanne” which explains a lot about both of them I think. Even with that amazing career of hers she manages to squeeze time for supporting censorship and attacking strangers.

In any case, what really floats Betsy’s boat is talking about pornography in the universes worst impression of a young child. She even wrote a book that way (“More Than Once Upon a Time“).  It’s pretty pathetic all things considered but I am sure at least 12 people (accounting for the housing of more than 144 cats) considered it brave or artistic or something.

Fear not though – you don’t have to fork over for a lame book to be amused by the writings of an imaginary child spouting opinions that are less than intelligent even when spoken by adults. The blog “Ethel’s Law” is authored by the fictional Ethel Spiliotes and is stunningly bad.

What I find amusing is not that Ethel is fictional… but that Ethel sounds exactly the way I fear many of the spawn of the radical activists who are Betsy’s fans sound. Ethel is angry, fearful, filled with hatred and convinced the world is out to get her and kill women wholesale unless the revolution comes. She doesn’t understand these concepts but she is takes them on faith…

Just like Betsy.

  1. Ha!

It looks like you got drawn into the “Ethel Spilotes” thing too, wondering where the fuck that was coming from. When I first came across it via Melissa Farley’s blog, my first thought was “there’s no way this is written by a 5th-grader”. (I think most people figure this out pretty quickly – there’s a thread on Genderberg to that effect.)

With a little reading, I figured out that it was Betsy Salkind’s alter ego, and after reading about Salkind’s background, it all made sense.

I always hated “Rosanne” – now I know why.
