Radical Otherkin?

The feeling of being addicted to your own victimization and drama is clearly very strong given how many people make it the focal point of their life. The thing is… many people grow out of it right after their teen years. If you don’t want to let it go and still crave the freedom to act like overwrought child well into adult hood, you have a few options…

  • Keep your Goth sensibility till you are 60 or so (don’t ignore this, they are all over fandom)
  • Become a radical activist for a lost and ill defined cause that no one needs to solve a problem in the least useful possible way (I’m looking at you NOW and Greenpeace)
  • Decide your not human at all, you are “Otherkin

If your an Otherkin, one of the things you can do is go out and commune with “the planet”. You will feel drawn to animals and a dislike of large chunks of humanity… sound familiar?

“This Saturday I went to the park. I got there rather late, around 8:00 pm and, since I knew I would most likely be there after the sun went down, I brought a flashlight. I walked and I sat and I thought and I walked some more. I had some wonderful encounters with local wildlife, eventually though the sun did set and I found myself in a rapidly darkening forest. As the last bits of daylight blinked out of existence the “˜night shift’ came onto duty.

In conditions that would likely have terrified most men, almost absolute blindness, dark shapes of animals staying just outside the area of my sight, the sounds of a rather large pack of coyotes coming closer, I sat down. I sat, in the middle of this space and I felt more at ease and more at home and confident than I ever feel at the store or in public.” – The Biting Beaver communing with nature

The difference is, if your an Otherkin you will go right on ahead and imagine that your actually a Dragon spirit trapped in human form. If your a radical feminist you are some other nonhuman form trapped… maybe “The Goddess” or socialist.

In either case you get to spend your time wailing about how no one understands you, how you operate on a higher plane of consciousness and how we go on and on about how difficult your life is and try and make others responsible for the fragility you call your feelings.

Just a thought.
