The idiocy of the people within them.
Successful democracies find themselves with population that have a few factors that simply grow as time goes on…
- More and more free time
- More and more freedom to communicate
- Less and less harsh reality reminding them of the danger they are in
- A growing class of “activist” idiots who dedicate themselves to hating the very society that supports them
In essence, a large portion of the population of a successful and powerful democracy is simply divorced from reality. The begin to lose sight of the realities of the world around them and become so spoiled by the abundance around them they are free to pursue lines of activism and thought that are effectively suicidal. It is the only way to explain why so many people in the USA currently embrace belief systems that call for the immolation of the USA on the altar of their self hatred, guilt and odd ideas of fairness.
How else can you explain a situation where someone like Scott Adams will claim that there is no “freedom of speech” in the USA when he is doing so on because he has that freedom?
How else can you explain people so caught up in their own self hatred and guilt that they will actually cheer on those who are trying to destroy their own nation and justify that urge to self destruction with the illogical conclusions they draw from history they only somewhat understand? People like this…

The continued discussions around the net regarding Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are scary and illustrative. Here we have a man who openly supports terrorism Who openly calls for the destruction of Israel. A man who is openly pursuing the acquisition of nuclear technology and absolutely declaring Iran intention to build weapons with it. A man who has openly called for the destruction of the United states. Yet all the seriously deranged folks on the far left can do is sing his praises.
It baffles me. A bunch of people who are willing to entertain the repeatedly debunked existence of some fictitious “9/11 conspiracy” despite huge piles of physical evidence… yet the first time the obviously lying Ahmadinejad opens his mouth and tells them what they want to hear they lap it up like cream.
It’s so sad, so pathetic and so self destructive.
Yet it is only possible because those same people are protected by a bubble that keeps them safe. They have the luxury of using their freedom of speech to claim they live in a fascist state. They have the luxury of believing Ahmadinejad’s lies only because they live in a country with a military so strong that Ahmadinejad can’t reach out and kill them… they way he so clearly longs to do.
They will continue to sit in their bubble and enjoy the luxury of believe that madmen like this mean them no harm. They will continue to scream, whine and moan that the tactics that keep them safe are “war crimes” and they will continue to nurture their guilt. The one thing they will not do is remember that if they actually get their way – if they succeed in tearing down capitalism, the military that guards it and the policies that protect it they will be able to live in their utopia with the other sheep for about 11 seconds before the wolves come in and rip their fucking hearts out.
The saddest thing? The last thing they force out of their slit throats will by to wonder how in the word something like this could happen to them.
