Herdwatching is more than making fun of conspiracy nut jobs. We have a large flock and sometimes a specific sheep is worth a closer look… or used to be. Over her career Britney has also been the focus of millions of words of debate and argument both in and out of the blogosphere. Oh, and the traffic for this post will kick ass.
Personally, I was really pulling for Brit. In her prime it is pretty safe to say she was one of the more attractive humans walking the planet and she simply radiated youth, beauty and energy. All through the last few years I was pretty sure if she worked hard and got her act together she was still a very pretty girl and inside lurks a great performer.
Sadly, it looks like that won’t happen. Brit has hit the wall, and hit it hard. The body, face and smile that launched many into puberty and not a few older men into palpitations has mellowed into merely cute (at the best of times) and singularly unattractive at others.
It’s interesting how many different attacks Britney has engendered over her career. She was attacked when she was a virgin, and attacked when she became more sexually active – often by the same ‘feminists’. She has been accused of being both a brainless robot and a calculating evil gender traitor subverting young girls for the patriarchy. Let’s not forget “sexbot” as well… another term used most often in attacks on Britney by women who superficially claim to support and defend all women.
All women, that is, except the cute ones.
Clearly for many of her detractors in the radical feminist and religious right (there is really no important differences where sex and sin are concerned) her sins were youth and beauty. How dare she make use of those? The fly in the ointment is that now when she is neither particularly young nor especially attractive she has gained no allies from those who were previously blinded by something like jealousy. They still attack her.
So odd… but then, these people rarely make sense. In the end they can agree on only a few things. The first is that Brit once upon a time reminded a whole lot of people that pretty females bodies will make many folks think about sex. And the radical feminists and the religious right agree we simply can’t stand for that sort of thing. The second is that she can never, ever be forgiven for the first sin.
Here then in an attempt to actually support women trying to make their way in the world we here at Herdwatching would like to show our support for Britney. In this case, by watching her new video for those oh so tantalizing moments when we see flashes of the ‘old’ Brit underneath and flash back to someone who (in her prime) was a fine role model for young ladies who want fame and fortune*.
* – Like it? It’s damn near poetic it is. You may now love us.

Brit is still a very attractive woman. However, if she’s going to do a video with pole dancing in it, perhaps she should learn to actually pole dance?
At times she is still slammingly hot… but not mythically so as she once was. It’s unfortunate. Some of her contemporaries have managed to pull off getting better as time goes by but that must be very, very hard to do even with a genetic advantage.
Additionally I agree. There is every reason why Brit should become very, very good at pole dancing
