Let’s face it, Al Sharpton is a vulture. Now I know in advance that saying anything bad about “Reverend Al” will net me a bunch of nasty comments and emails about being racist or some silliness… but the the truth is the truth. In his career (and it is exactly that) our buddy Al has been responsible for riots, injuries, wasted money, false accusations and overall racism on a level that would make a aspiring “white power” moron proud.
Of course Al isn’t alone in his chosen role as vulture. There are many activism addicts in all sorts of areas. You name it from Global Warming, 9/11 denial, PETA to radical feminism… wherever there is a gullible group of people who feel better about being victims than they would about having to face reality there is profit to be made. It might be money, it might be power or it might be the feeling of being special… but they gain something from the suckers.
“There is another class of activist who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of their group before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want their group to lose its grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs….There is a certain class of activists who do not want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public.” – Soulhuntre paraphrase of a quote from Booker T. Washington
In a thread on dig talking about the call by Whoopi to Al for an apology to the innocent people vilified by him during the Duke rape fiasco. There is no shock that he refuses.
“The sad thing about the NAACP, and the civil rights movement in general, is that once they achieved their reasonable goals, the reasonable people went on to other pursuits, leaving the assholes to fuck it up. This has happened with many reform movements, from the feminists to the environmentalists to the labor unions.” – jcr on Digg
Well said.
