These days "debate" seems to be a term one can apply to many events. Especially if you are the so called "Debate Society". Events that include a completely one sided presentation by the unqualified members of a fringe group. Of course, that running such a one sided event would go against the very definition of debate your "society" espouses, why let that bother you?
"Lee claimed that "Serious scholarship will be presented to you tonight". In fact, what we heard were the standard falsehoods of the 9/11 Truth movement, and discussion of the fine points of building collapse by a man not even remotely qualified to discuss the issue. Lee claimed that he would present "a forum in an atmosphere of open-minded scholarly challenge". But there was no challenge, since no one from the opposing side was permitted to speak. The question period was extremely limited." – Jeffrey Shallit calling out Richard Borshay Lee
You should really go and read it all, Jeffrey Shallit does a good job describing this embarrassing event for the University.
