Calling me a racist is not having a discussion…

To hear many people tell it we are now entering a new era in "the discussion about race". Finally the liberal white afflicted with racial guilt has an altar to kneel before. Line up and prostrate yourselves. Search your souls for every thought crime you can imagine. The left hasn’t yet found a way for you to absolve yourself for not being homeless but at least these days you can choose between hating your race or your gender!

Barack Obama knows your a racist but he forgives you! Hell, his own grandmother is a racist and he forgives her! Come to the loving arms of your savior. Bask in your self loathing as he tells you it’s going to be all right!

Wait, I hear you cry, I just don’t feel bad enough about myself! I want more catharsis. How can Barack Obama help me hate myself even more? Frankly, it’s bullshit. I am amazed at how many people seem to think that more of the same from this fruitbat (Wright) somehow makes it better "in context".

Ok, let’s get serious about all this silliness for a moment. There really are a lot of people who are more than willing to be told they harbor within themselves the original sin of racism. They will lap all of the accusations up because deep down they love the feeling of guilt. By feeling guilt they convince themselves they are now morally superior. Hate me and set me free!

If there is anything that Obama is offering here – it is the illusion that by internalizing this hatred we can heal the wounds. That this is our penance. That we should elect a leader who sat for 20 years at the knee of someone who honestly deluded himself into believing whites created HIV to kill the black race.

I like to think we, as a nation, are smarter than that. hell, at least Hillary only hates me for being male.

But here’s a better idea. Let’s have a real open discussion of racism that doesn’t assume that I inevitably am one. Then maybe we have something to talk about.
