New Feature: Flounce watch!

Dropping like flies lately, they are. Some of them in a full on “goodbye cruel world” flounce and others in the time honored “I need a break for my real life” way. This edition is a short one, but worth noting anyway.

“Don’t do this. I am begging you. Take a break if you must, but don’t silence yourself. In the name of every black woman who is struggling to find their voice and justice, keep blogging. There are many that didn’t even realize how many black female bloggers “” black feminists “” were out there. These bad acts have drawn more attention to your cause than you realize. So don’t go away. Please.” – jenn, feeding a flounce

Currently, on Flounce Watch…

  • Blackamazonthis is a full on flounce. I have no doubt at all there will be a triumphant return somewhere in the future. As flounces go? I’d give it a 7/10 . The passion is there, and the idea of posting the “goodbye cruel world” message on other blogs is always good for some points. It’s just lacking in style.
  • Brownfemipower – a full on flounce. I personally think there is something inspired about opening a whole blog just to post a message that you aren’t going be blogging. My initial temptation is to give it a 6 /10 but I will toss in 2 bonus points for the collective upset. Since the whole point of flouncing is to get just that reaction, this is an unqualified success.
  • Jill of FeministeThis is only a semi flounce but I put it here for completeness in case it turns into a flounce in the future. I almost feel bad for Jill who is slowly realizing no matter why you try and do, someone will accuse you of being an oppressor. She doesn’t really know it yet… but the information is just starting to seep in.

I know that some people I have respect for really feel bad that these voices have left us and I hope they feel better about it soon. As for the voice sin question – feminism will survive without them and in any case I am sure the will be back soon.

I don’t know about Jill but both Blackamazon and Brownfemipower have flounced before and come back so I’m betting on at least Blackamazon coming back.

The dramatic farewells are a tad much. You know these people google their names obsessively every day to see what’s written about them and when the buzz dies down, they’ll be back to stir it back up. Personally, I never really understand much of what BA writes except that I know she’s always angry about something.

i like all three of the above mentioned bloggers a whole lot. I’ll miss all of them for them. You need to highlight some male blogger temper tantrums…they are out there….boys flounce too…

I agree. I probably do because they sure as hell do. The UFO guys, the Troofers and the hordes of emo kids not even to mention the furries and more.

My email is always open to anyone who wants to provide a tip :) Hell, you can even call and leave a voice mail (see sidebar)

“You know what, soulhuntre: finally: piss off.”

I know you liked and respected some (all?) of these folks and I am sure with good reason. As I mentioned above, I am sure they will be blogging again soon. Till then, I hope that those of you who were friends continue to stay in touch privately.

Frankly my issue is rarely with someone who decides to leave blogging. Blogging is not life, it is an aspect of life and sometimes that aspect needs to go on pause or stop.

What has really gotten me about the flounces of late is the wailing and “what will we ever do without them” commentary. There is a collective level of drama that I think just isn’t necessary.

Then again, I am probably just displaying my normal lack of empathy.

Don’t you think that this post kinda *adds* to the level of drama? Posting about it under the guise of being dismayed with all of the drama is a bit passive-aggressive.

“Don’t you think that this post kinda *adds* to the level of drama?”

No, I don’t think I add drama because my post wasn’t… dramatic. it was critical, maybe even insulting… but I wouldn’t call it dramatic.

“Posting about it under the guise of being dismayed with all of the drama is a bit passive-aggressive”

There isn’t anything passive about how aggressive I am.
