As a member of an alternative lifestyle I hear my share of folks disparaging people with strong religious beliefs. Well, that’s not true many usually just talk about Christians. Any number of other odd religions from vague “Gaia” stuff to flat our paganism is treated with tolerance: it is just Christians who get a special anger. Fortunately the vast majority of folks and certainly anyone I spend time with are more tolerant than that.
That isn’t to say I haven’t ever had problems at the hands of radical Christian groups I have. it is to say that they haven’t caused me any more problems that the radical feminist fringe or the Gaia morons have with their extreme environmental silliness. There are tolerant Christians and an intolerant fringe just like in any other group.
That brings me to the topic of this post some of the nicest people I have met in a while.
I play a fair amount of Halo 3 and the game is at it’s best when you are playing with good people and when you are really lucky you get to game with your friends. Xbox Live! excels at the “couch experience” where you and your group roll from game to game, sharing a chuckle and commiserating at a loss: cries of “”Did you see that?” are common.
A day or two ago I had the good fortune to share a game with some players from clan “SBG” (Saved by God). After the game they invited me to continue sharing games with the group and I passed a few great hours with them. It became clear early on that this was a religious group of guys but when it casually came out that I was an atheist there wasn’t a single problem with it. No judgment, no hassle, no stress.
These guys are everything that is best about the Live! experience. They are polite, supportive, work well as a team and play hard but don’t mind me dragging down their average (they are mostly much better than I am). It’s a little weird after years of Live! to hear folks who play without a fair amount of profanity but that’s not a problem at all I don’t miss it.
They always, always say “good game” to out opponents, win or lose.
All in all it makes for a very pleasant experience and I am pretty happy I ran into them.
